2023 UQC Pacific Northwest High School Quizbowl League

Greetings! This is the announcement for the UQC’s inaugural Pacific Northwest High School Quiz Bowl League. My name is Owen Riley, and I will be directing this tournament. I will attempt to be brief, but please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Teams

—Schools from the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado are eligible to compete in this event.

—Schools from Canada and neighboring U. S. states may register for this event, but will initially be placed on a waitlist.

—Homeschools and homeschool co-ops are eligible to register teams for this event, but may be subject to further requirements. Please email me if you represent a homeschool or a homeschool co-op.

Players

—This is a “closed” tournament. All players on a team must attend the same school.

—In general, players taking two or more classes for credit at a school are eligible to play on that school’s team. Please email me if you have questions about a particular player’s eligibility.

—Each team may consist of up to six players. Up to four players may be in play at one time.

Platform

—This event will be run *online* using Zoom and buzzin.live.

Dates and Time

—All teams will play two games each (or for a little over an hour) on the following Tuesdays: 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/20, 2/27, 3/5. 

—Games will take place at 7 PM MT (8 PM CT / 6 PM PT).

—All teams are guaranteed to play 12 games.

—Reschedule dates may be able to be made available if teams request (at the time of registration) for their schedule to avoid a certain date.

Question Set and Divisions

—This tournament will have two divisions: “Varsity” and “Junior Varsity.”

—The Varsity division will use 2023 CARD, a regular-difficulty question set.

—The Junior Varsity division will use 2023 QUAOAR, a high school novice-difficulty set.

Fees

—Base fee: $120 per team

—Team-provided staff discount: -$40 per staffer

—New-to-quizbowl discount: -$70 for first team

Registration

—Team registration can be found at the bottom of this announcement.

—Staff will each be paid $40, and should register with this form.

—The registration deadline is Sunday, January 21, 2024.
