About the event

Good afternoon. This is the announcement for UQC’s Planetfall Nationwide tournament, an online event for high school teams around the country.

I, Owen Riley, will be directing a national, online high school mirror of Planetfall on Saturday, April 20, 2024. There will be an opening meeting at 8:45 AM Central, and games will begin at 9 AM Central.

This tournament will take place online over Zoom and Buzzin.live, with a central Discord server set up for team communication. Depending on field size, all teams will be guaranteed from eight to ten games.

Registration

To register to play this tournament, teams should register at the bottom of this page. Staffers should register by filling out this form. The field cap will initially be set at 16 teams in each division, and will expand if we have enough staff.

The deadline to register to play this tournament is Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Teams who drop from the field after 11 PM Central on Thursday, April 18, 2024 will be required to pay the full fee. Please drop before the registration deadline if you need to drop.

All staff will be paid $35, except those staffing for team discounts.

Fees

Base fee: $85/team

Staffer discount: -$35/staffer (must be approved by TD)

Interested teams with financial need or difficulties should reach out to me separately. Discounts may be available.

Divisions

There will be two divisions for this tournament:

 • Teams in the closed division must consist of players who all attend the same school.
 • Teams in the open division may consist of players from different schools between grades 9-12.

Cheating

To prevent cheating, all players will be required to have both of their hands and the screen of the device they use for buzzin.live in view of a camera. This may be easily accomplished with a second camera angle, or by buzzing on a phone. For this reason, unfortunately we will not be able to permit any camera exemptions. In the closed division, those who have issues with Internet who wish to play this tournament might inquire as to whether their team can meet in-person in one location, such as a school classroom.

Payment

Payment should be sent during registration through the website. The website accepts PayPal or debit card. If you wish to pay through Venmo, that can be arranged. If you wish to pay via a check, send me an email and that will be arranged. Zelle is not acceptable.

In the open division, one individual should pay their team’s registration fee through the website, and get paid back by the other members of their team. In the closed division, if you expect your school to be late in paying, investigate whether you can pay up front and be reimbursed by your school at a later date.

My email is oriley1201 AT icloud DOT com. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
